Continuing passing liquid through the suppressor without synchronizing the suppressor current with the pump causes the ion exchange membranes of the suppressor to be saturated with sodium ion (breakthrough), which results in an error due to produced resistance that increases the voltage.
Regenerate the suppressor by the following two procedures.
Immediately after the current is supplied to the suppressor, the instrument is set to operate with lower current value than that in the normal analysis, which enables to start the suppressor with the voltage increase controlled.
1. Purge the pump with eluent.
2. Check if the pump synchronization of the suppressor current is ON. If it is OFF, turn it ON.
3. Start the delivery of eluent by the pump. (A flow rate for analysis can be used.)
4. When the error occurs again, repeat the same procedure.
When the error persists even after repeating the same procedure twice, perform "Rinsing the Suppressor with Sulfuric Acid".
When the error is corrected, wait until the baseline stabilizes (approximately half a day) before starting the analysis.
5. When the peak intensity is smaller than before in the analysis, perform "Rinsing the Suppressor with Sulfuric Acid".
Perform the suppressor rinsing by using the below-mentioned sulfuring aqueous acid solution.
For the reagent grade of sulfuric acid, use one of a high purity level such as those used for precision analysis or metal analysis.。
100 mmol/L sulfuric acid: Prepare by mixing 1.11mL of concentrated sulfuric acid with 200mL of water.
By using the syringe, manually clean the suppressor. Be sure to wear protective goggles and protective gloves for the work.
1. Remove the tubes connected to ELUENT.IN port, ELUENT.OUT port, and REGEN.IN port, then connect the supplied drain tube to ELUENT. OUT port.
2. Connect the supplied 1mL disposable syringe to the ELUENT.IN port, and pass 5mL of pure water through the suppressor.
3. Through the adapter of the supplied REGEN.IN connection tube, from the REGEN.IN port, pass 5mL of pure water through the suppressor.
4. As in steps 1 to 3, pass 5 mL of 100 mmol/L aqueous sulfuric acid solution through the suppressor from the ELUENT.IN port and the REGEN.IN port.
5. As in steps 1 to 3, pass 5 mL of pure water through the suppressor from the ELUENT.IN port and the REGEN.OUT port.
6. Set the suppressor tubes back in place, then supply current to the suppressor and deliver solvent.
7. When the error occurs again, repeat steps 1 to 6. When the error is corrected, wait until the baseline stabilizes (approximately 5 hours) before starting analysis.
8. In the analysis result, if the peak intensity is smaller than before, repeat steps 1 to 7.
