3. Replacing the Injection Port Tubing (SIL-40C XSi)

Answer

CAUTION:
• For fittings for the high pressure valve of SIL-40C XSi, use the exclusive ratchet fittings of PEEK lined SS tube or the exclusive finger-tight fittings.
  Using a typical stainless male nut will damage the internal ceramic stator. Using a UHPLC fitting will also damage the internal ceramic stator if the fitting is overtightened.
• When installing or removing a PEEK lined SS tube, insert the tube straight into or draw it straight from the connection port so that the end face of the tube does not come in contact with the screw of the connection port.
  A PEEK lined SS tube has a structure that provides the seal by the PEEK section of the tube end face. If this section comes in contact with the screw of a connection port, it can be damaged and cause leakage.
• After removing a PEEK lined SS tube, put a ratchet fitting cap on it.
  A PEEK lined SS tube has a structure that provides the seal by the PEEK section of the tube end face. The tube end face may accidentally be damaged without the cap on it.
 
1. Prepare as many ratchet fitting caps as the number of the ratchet fittings to be removed.
 
2. Lift and pull the heat insulation fastening plate (A) toward you to remove it.
   
 
3. In the order of the outlet tubing connected to port 3 (A) of the high pressure valve and the inlet tubing connected to port 4 (B) of the high pressure valve, remove the tubing by loosening the ratchet fittings.
  NOTE: To protect the removed ratchet fittings, attach the ratchet fitting caps to the fittings immediately.
  HINT: It is possible to replace the injection port tubing without removing the outlet tubing and inlet tubing.
   
 
4. Loosen the fitting of port 6 (A) of the high pressure valve and the fitting of the central port (B) of the low pressure valve to remove the PEEK tube (C).
   
 
5. Remove the drain tube.
  1) Remove the 3-mm outer diameter tube (a) of the drain tube (B) inserted in the drain port (A).
  2) Loosen the fitting of port 1 (C) of the high pressure valve and remove the 1.6-mm outer diameter tube (b) of the drain tube (B).
   
 
6.  Remove the injection port tubing (B) connected to port 2 (A) of the high pressure valve by loosening the ratchet fitting.
    NOTE: To protect the removed ratchet fittings, attach the ratchet fitting caps to the fittings immediately.
   
 
7. Turn the heat insulation (A) and then pull the sample loop (B) out of the groove (a) of the base.
   
 
8. Turn the heat insulation (A)(Figure in Step7) and then pull the injection port tubing (B) out of the groove (a) of the base.
      
 
9. Remove the needle seal.
 
10. Lift the injection port tubing (A) and remove it from the injection port.
   
 
11 Install the new injection port tubing to the injection port by the reverse procedure of the removal.
  NOTE: For how to tighten the fitting, refer to the instruction manual included in the tubing.
 
12. Set the needle seal back in place.
 
13. Set the sample loop back in the groove of the base and set the heat insulation fastening plate back in place.
  NOTE: Push in the injection port tubing and the sample loop all the way until they fit into the notch of the heat insulation.
    The heat insulation fastening plate has the part (a) that fits into the opening of the base.
    Install the plate by pushing it to the right so that the part (a) clicks.
   
 
14. Install the drain tube back in place.
  1) Connect the 1.6-mm outer diameter tube (b) of the drain tube (B) to port 1 (C) of the high pressure valve.
  2) Insert the 3-mm outer diameter tube (a) of the drain tube (B) into the drain port (A).
  
 
15. Connect the PEEK tube (C) to port 6 (A) of the high pressure valve and the central port (B) of the low pressure valve by the finger-tight fittings.
  
 
16. Connect the outlet tubing to port 3 (A) of the high pressure valve and connect the inlet tubing to port 4 (B) of the high pressure valve.
  HINT: If you did not remove it in step 3, this work is not necessary.
