Follow the procedure below if the indentation is offset from the center of the field of view.
 
• HMV-G30, HMV-G20
1. Turn the left and right index knobs on the optical head until the two index lines meet and form a single line at the center of the field of view.
  
2. Move a part of the test piece that does not yet have an indentation into the field of view.
3. Create an indentation using a test force of 9.807 N.
4. If the indentation image is visible within the field of view but is not centered as in below fig., use the two lens position adjustment screws to center the image in the field of view. (The indentation will move in the direction that the adjustment screw is pressed in.)
  
5. If the indentation image is not visible within the field of view, move the stage X-axis and Y-axis micrometers, and determine where the indentation image is positioned outside the field of view. At this point, watching the stage micrometer gradations will make the determination easier. When you have determined the position of the indentation image, perform adjustments as per step 4) above. If the image is outside the adjustment range, contact a Shimadzu sales or service representative.
