Part Number: 347-20344  VICKERS INDENTOR 100D
Part Number: 340-06619-07  STD TEST BLOCK HMV-700

1. Problems with the Shape of the Indentation
If the shape of the indentation changes as shown in below, the indenter attachment is malfunctioning or is improperly adjusted. In this case, report the problem to contact a Shimadzu sales or service representative.

The indentation shape shown in below, can occur if the sample surface is not mounted horizontally. In this case, report the problem to contact a Shimadzu sales or service representative.

2. Replacing the Indenter
  1) Lower XY stage to near the lowest position.
  2) Attach the indenter fastener to the indenter in order to fasten it.
  3) With your fingers, try gently lifting the indenter, and check that it does not move vertically.
  4) While holding the indenter holder and indenter with your hand, loosen the setscrew on the bottom of the holder and remove the indenter.
NOTE: The indenter will drop when the setscrew is loosened, so be careful not to let it fall.
NOTE: Since dirt of sebum will adhere to indenter if it is touched bare hands, exchange indenter with using a glove etc.

  5) Attach a new indenter to the indenter holder. Then tighten the setscrew to fasten the indenter. When attaching the indenter, insert it into the indenter holder in such a way that the notch in the indenter is facing the front of the setscrew. Then push the indenter upward until it makes contact with the indenter holder.

3. Adjusting the Inclination of the Indentation Image
If the indentation image is inclined as shown in below, measurements can be performed by inclining the optical head. However, this can
make it difficult to see the indentation, so follow the procedure below if you wish to adjust for the inclination.
  1) Perform a test, make an indentation, and record the inclination angle θ.
  2) Follow procedure 1 and 2 in section "Replacing the Indenter" to ensure that the indenter is secured in place.
  3) While holding the indenter holder, loosen the indenter holder setscrew (the upper of the two screws).
  4) Turn the indenter holder in the opposite direction to the inclination of the image, and adjust for the inclination θ. Then while gently pushing the indenter upward, tighten the loosened setscrew.
  5) Create another indentation, and check the indentation image.
  6) Repeat this process until the inclination θ of the indentation image is zero.
