(ICPS) Check and Replacement of Glassware

The glassware used in the ICP stand must be renewed accordingly. This section describes when and how the glassware should be replaced with new one.
WARNING: Never touch the inside of stand within five minutes after extinguishment of the plasma.
CAUTION: Glassware is easy to crack. Be careful when you handle it.
 
1. Replacement of torch
  • When samples have adhered to the center orifice.
  • Before the analysis of trace elements after analysis of high concentration boric acid (B).
  • When the torch is broken.
  In such a case above, replace the torch with new one.
 
2. Nebulizer
  Deposits adhere to the tip of the nebulizer when analyzing high salt sample. In such a case, make sure to use a bubbler (option).
  If the tip of the nebulizer is clogged with foreign objects, the sample suction will slow down considerably or stop.
  In this case, disconnect the nebulizer and press the tip of nebulizer lightly with fingers while flowing the carrier gas. Then, the foreign objects may be removed.
 
3. Replacement of chamber
  • Before a change of solvent, from organic solvent (such as MIBK and alcohol) to water.
  • Before a change of solvent, from water to organic solvent (such as MIBK and alcohol).
  • When stubborn stain is found.
  In such a case above, replace the chamber with new one.
 
4. Cleaning of glassware
  Put the glassware in the hydrochloric acid (HCl ) - 2 normal solution, and clean with pure water.
  Wash away enough with pure water after washing with detergent, when washing after introducing an organic solvent.
  NOTE: Never perform ultrasonic cleaning to the glassware.
