(FTIR) IRTracer-100 Replacement of Beam Splitter Unit

(FTIR) IRTracer-100 Replacement of Beam Splitter Unit.
Category :

Answer

The scan wavenumber range of the IRTracer-100 can be changed by switching the beam splitter unit. If it is expected that the main power supply will be off for a long time, the beam splitter unit can be removed and individually stored in a desiccator.
NOTE:
• When the beam splitter is replaced, confirm that an environment is no greater than 60% humidity.
• Be sure to turn the start switch off if work is being done. Failure to do so may cause exposure to the Class 2M laser at the installation position of the beam splitter.

1. Replacement of Beam Splitter Unit
  1) Open the top cover of the instrument.
When the top cover is open, the interferometer case cover can be seen inside. The maintenance window is the lid at the front right side of the instrument.

  2) Loosen the 3 screws securing the maintenance window, then open the lid.
When the lid is opened, the silica gel case and the beam splitter installation position can be seen.

2. Detaching the Beam Splitter
  1) Attach the BS handle to the beam splitter unit using the fixing screws, then hold the BS handle and pull straight upward.
While doing this, never allow the surface of the beam splitter (round, transparent part) to become dirty.

  2)  Place the removed beam splitter in the beam splitter case.
  NOTE:
    • The beam splitter case containing the removed beam splitter must be kept in a desiccator.
    • The beam splitter case contains silica gel. If the gel has discolored to purple or red, replace it with new (blue) gel before placing the beam splitter in the case.
    • The cobalt chloride used in conventional indicating silica gel has been prescribed as a carcinogen under EU Directives 98/98/EC. Therefore, at present, each manufacturer is replacing cobalt chloride with a biologically safe organic coloring.
The color of the replacement indicating silica gel is generally darker and does not have the bright coloring of conventional silica gel. Therefore, caution is required when making determinations. If even a slight red color is detected in the indicating silica gel, replace with new silica gel.
  3) Close the beam splitter case and replace the maintenance window and top cover.

3. Installation of the Beam Splitter
  1) Attach a beam splitter taken out of a beam splitter case to the instrument.
NOTE: The round convex surface of the beam splitter must be on the interior side when inserting the beam splitter. The beam splitter must be inserted as far in as possible.

  2) Close the maintenance window and top cover to their original positions.
  3) Turn on the start switch.
  4) About 30 seconds after turning on, click [Instrument] on the scan toolbar in the LabSolutions IR measurement program and select [Initialize].
If the message [Auto-Adjust is necessary. Start Auto-Adjust?] appears, click [OK].
If it does not appear, click [Instrument] on the scan toolbar and select [Auto-Adjust (Coarse Adjust)] after initialization is completed.
