(FTIR) IRSpirit Wavenumber Calibration

(FTIR) IRSpirit Wavenumber Calibration
Category :

Answer

Execute Wavenumber calibration of IRSpirit using peaks of carbon dioxide and water vapor.
FTIR spectrum is described with wavenumber unit. Since wavenumber accuracy is calibrated using the wavelength of the reference laser, this calibration result is shown as wavelength of the reference laser.
Execute Wavenumber calibration every month.
If “Laser wavelength check” is failed during initialization, Wavenumber calibration must be executed because wavenumber accuracy is not guaranteed.

NOTE:
• Scan background again after the Wavenumber calibration. If sample scan is executed without re-scanning background, there may be noises on the sample spectrum.
• Measure reference spectra for ASTM validation again after the Wavenumber calibration. If ASTM validation is executed without re-measuring reference spectra, there may be noises on the test spectra and the judgement may not be correct.
• If the concentration of carbon dioxide and/or water vapor in the sample compartment is low, Wavenumber calibration cannot be executed and message below is displayed. Open the Sample compartment cover and then execute Wavenumber calibration again with the unit open to the atmosphere.
• If the interferometer condition is bad, Wavenumber calibration cannot be finish correctly. If message below is displayed during running Wavenumber calibration, click [Interference Intensity Optimization] to optimize the interferometer condition. Since this optimization is only applied to Wavenumber calibration, when Wavenumber calibration is stopped on the way, interferometer condition is not optimized. To optimize the interferometer condition, complete the Wavenumber calibration or execute “Auto Adjust (fine)”.

1. Confirm that there is nothing to disturb IR light such as any samples or accessories in the IRSpirit sample compartment.
NOTE: If any sample is in the sample compartment, the absorption peaks of sample disturb the Wavenumber calibration. If any accessory is in the sample compartment, especially if diamond ATR accessory is in the sample compartment, the absorption peaks of the diamond disturb the Wavenumber calibration. In those cases, wavenumber accuracy of scanned spectra is not guaranteed.

2.Select [Instrument]- [Wavenumber calibration] on LabSolutions IR.
  Wavenumber calibration starts.
Wavenumber calibration consists of following the 3 steps.
  • Checking the current wavenumber accuracy
  • Calculating correction value for wavenumber
  • Checking calibrated result

3. Click [OK] after following message is displayed.

NOTE: Wavenumber is not corrected when the differences of laser wavelength between before and after the Wavenumber calibration is in the standard because wavenumber accuracy is enough.

4. Click [OK] to execute Automatic adjustment after following message is displayed.
