HPLC: What solvent cannot be used?

HPLC: What solvent cannot be used?
Category :

Answer

• It is basically used within the pH described in the specifications of the instruction manual of each instruments.

• Not covered by warranty if used for purposes other than high performance liquid chromatograph.

• Instruments containing stainless steel in the liquid-contacting part materials;
Halogen ions can corrode the stainless steel material used in the plumbing, so avoid, as much as possible, mobile phases that contain halogen ions - such as KCI, NaCI and NH4CI - or mobile phases that generate halogen ions in certain reactions. If such mobile phases must be used, clean all flow lines thoroughly with distilled water immediately after analysis.

• When use PEEK piping, please see here (Click).

• When using THF, chloroform, DMF, or HFIP for GPC analysis, etc., options for each instruments are available.

• The following solvents cannot be used with DGU-20/40.
  • HFIP (hexafluoroisopropanol)
  • Hydrogen fluoride
  • 1,1,2-Trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane
  • Fluorinert™ Electronic Liquids FC-40
  • Fluorinert™ Electronic Liquids FC-72
  • Fluorinert™ Electronic Liquids FC-75
  • Perfluoro benzene
  • Perfluoro octane
  • Perfluoro decalin
  • Perfluoro 1-methyldecalin
  • Perfluoro dimethyldecalin
  • Perfluoro methyl-cyclohexane
  • Perfluoro dimethyl-cyclohexane
  • AK-225
  • Other fluorinated solvents
  • Nitric acid having a concentration of 30% min.
  • Hydrogen peroxide
CAUTION: When solvents with high volatility and solubility (hexane, heptane, THF, ethyl acetate etc.) are used, replace the channel inside the instrument with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and stop operation.
