Answer

The electrodialytic suppressor is characterized by the baseline varying every moment. The baseline variation is numerically represented by a noise value. The noise value is two to three times as large when the baseline variation is large as when the baseline variation is small. When the baseline variation is large, the baseline varies periodically about every 30 seconds. This is not caused by such factors as the pump but attributed to the electrodialytic suppressor. The noise requirement is 3 μS/cm or less for the Shimadzu standard mobile phase. The examples below show the baselines with small or large baseline variation that appeared when the 50 μL of the standard sample was injected in each column. Noise values equal to or less than the above criterion are acceptable.
 
• Example of Shim-pack IC-SA2(Click)
Mobile phase: 12 mmol/L sodium hydrogen carbonate, 0.6 mmol/L sodium carbonate
The noise value is about twice as large when the baseline variation is large as when the baseline variation is small.
• Example of Shim-pack IC-SA3(Click)
Mobile phase: 3.6 mmol/L sodium carbonate
The noise value is about twice as large when the baseline variation is large as when the baseline variation is small.
